![]() ![]() When deer sense the presence of predators, such as wolves, humans, or pumas, they use a wide range of communication, such as snorts and stomps, to warn others about the immediate danger. How Do Hunters Use Deer Calls to Their Advantage?.Do Deer Use Their Antlers to Communicate?.Differences in Communication Between Deer. So, why do deer blow? It’s a form of deer communication that alerts the herd, but hopefully they aren’t talking about you. Then, the next time you’re hunting and hear a deer blow, you can be confident that it’s not at you. You want to have very few molecules (that smell like you) floating around in the air. You see, it’s all about scent molecule density. Keeping your scent level down can trick them into believing that you are much further away than they think you are. White-tailed deer have one heck of a sniffer on them so they can be hard to fool, but it’s not impossible. ![]() Scent control is not necessarily about being “scent-free” but about being low in human scent. Image woodswalksandwildlife Avoid Detection The best I can offer is to remember that it’s not always you. It’s frustrating - especially since so many hunters are quite meticulous about scent control and hunting under favorable wind conditions. More often than not, it means the deer that you are hunting smell you. Like some of you reading this article, I can tell you from experience that deer will blow when they see or smell something that is not right. Image woodswalksandwildlife Why do Deer Blow? Sup? ![]() The sound may startle a predator into revealing its location or leaving the area. The “sneeze” clears the nasal passages, and helps the deer sniff the air better. The noise warns all deer that something is radically wrong. There may be three reasons for these sounds. Snorts are single, very short, explosive sounds given as the deer turns to run. These blows are drawn-out “whooshes” repeated several times. The deer blows when it detects danger at a distance. The deer forcibly expels air through its nostrils like a greatly magnified sneeze. Source: Blow or snort (all deer, all seasons). Regardless of why the deer is alarmed, the result may end in an unproductive hunt if your goal is to tag a deer. Coyotes, dogs or anything else that they perceive as a threat. ![]() There are numerous things in a deer’s environment that can cause it to react with that attention-grabbing, nasal-clearing sound. Though I’ve heard many deer do this over the years, I’ve come to realize that their actions are not always in response to me. Image Why do Deer Blow? Alert!ĭeer really only blow for one reason, to alert other deer in the area that something is out of the ordinary. If you’re like me, it’s usually at this point during a hunt that you’re ready to pack up your gear, climb down out of the stand and head for home, tail between your legs. It can be downright unnerving when a buck or doe breaks complete silence by blowing loudly, especially at close range. Ironically, a loud blow by a white-tailed sucks all the air out of my sail. This is when you need deer to close the distance due to the range limitations of archery equipment. Ugh, why do deer blow? It’s an annoying, but effective sound (at least for the deer). There is nothing worse than hearing a loud, lung-collapsing deer blow while deer hunting. ![]()

Several auto manufacturers had issues with the paint on their cars peeling off in sheets, usually around the time the warranties on the cars had expired. The confusion arises when there is a widespread problem with a car that is not deemed a safety risk and the cars are out of warranty. (I know fire is serious but who doesn't know how to turn off their cruise?) Ford came up with some sort of fix and made it available for free to anyone who had one of the Explorers at the time of the recall. I got one for a Ford Explorer that indicated some Ford Explorer cruise control systems were subject to fire if the driver didn't disengage it properly. There have been all kinds of recalls over the years, many less serious than these. As such, the manufacturer will have to make the repair at no charge to the car owner regardless of whether or not the car is still under a manufacturer's warranty. ![]() Both the problems mentioned above affect safety and are the subject of recalls. Recalls are mandated by the government when a problem is found with an automobile which is safety related. If nothing else, you can use this information next time you buy a used car. ![]() But when does the manufacturer have to fix something at no charge for the consumer? Follow along. Ignition switches that shut off randomly? Airbags that blast projectiles into the driver? We've seen it all by now. Other times, the problems are safety-related and not so easy to fix. Automobile manufacturers often put cars on the road with defects which become apparent long after the cars are sold. ![]() ![]() ![]() I really think they’ve shot themselves in the foot as I fear many people consider purchasing an Instant Pot, see the 986 models (okay a slight exaggeration) and give up because they can’t figure out what model choose.BOSTON-( BUSINESS WIRE)-Black Friday experts are comparing all the top early Instant Pot deals for Black Friday, including the best offers on 8qt, 6qt & 3qt pressure cookers and air fryers. The plethora of Instant Pot models sold by the Instant Pot Company make choosing one a frustrating nightmare. Thanks to Barbara for this article on choosing an Instant Pot model. Barbara addresses this issue beautifully in one of her posts. For the vast majority of recipes you’ll need the Sauté, Pressure Cook, Start, Warm and Cancel Buttons. Supposedly the Duo Evo Plus was designed after collecting user comments and suggestions about what features a new model should have.Īnd one final thought, don’t choose one Instant Pot model over another because one model has more buttons than another. If you don’t yet have an Instant Pot and can possibly swing the extra bucks, the Duo Evo Plus is the one to choose. I now have the Duo Evo Plus and I LOVE it. As soon as I saw its features I wanted one. My first IP was an IP Duo and wasn’t even tempted to upgrade until the Duo Evo Plus. I think it’s a game changer for the Instant Pot. I agree with Barbara on her recommendation of the Duo Evo Plus. Don’t forget the larger the pressure cooker, the longer it will take to come to pressure. I use it to make a side dish when my main dish is cooking in the 6 quart.įor most folks, even families, a 6 quart will make a dish that will feed even a pretty large family. ![]() ![]() I have a 3 quart but bought it after I had the 6 quart for at least a year. There are only two of us and our primary Instant Pot is a 6 quart. ![]() The only time I recommend a 3 quart is as a second pressure cooker. Sure you can halve most recipes but why need to? Also you may initially THINK you aren’t going to make some of the recipes that require a 6 qt but may soon really “get into” pressure cooking and wish you had the 6 quart. Why? The VAST majority of recipes online or in books are written for 6 qt. Yes that’s what most recipes call for but for very few dollars more you can choose a model with high and low pressure.Įven for singles or couples I still think a 6 qt is the best choice for one’s first or only IP. Though it’s the least expensive, the Lux is the only model I wouldn’t recommend. My thoughts…not disagreeing really just a bit of a different take. The Pro model, which uses a combination dial and button system, is much more user-friendly, in my opinion. Instant Pot Ultra: This is an older model, and I don’t love the all-dial control.I don’t love it because it can be a little buggy and can overheat in saute mode, and we had a problem with the float valve breaking. Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus: This model has been discontinued and replaced with the Pro.However, I don’t love the pressure release system in this model, especially for cooking pasta. Instant Pot Max: This model can go up to 15psi, which can be used for canning under very strict conditions. But if you are shopping for a tech lover or see it for a great price, it could be a good choice for you. While this is convenient, I don’t love the full touch-screen display. Instant Pot Pro Plus: This model connects to your phone so that you can read more about what’s going on inside the pot.Other Instant Pot models that we’ve reviewed but aren’t mentioned here include: The Pro Crisp has the flat-bottom, handled pot, redesigned lid, and easy-read display that the Instant Pot Pro has, just with the added benefit of an air-fryer lid. Read my full Instant Pot Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid review or see it in action on YouTube. Read my full Instant Pot Duo Crisp (original) or see our informal review on YouTube. Keep in mind that the Ultimate Lid model is heavier than either the Duo Crisp or the Pro Crisp. If the yogurt button is a deal-breaker for you, the all-in-one Ultimate Lid is the only air frying pressure cooker that has that option. However, the Duo Crisp offers the same cook settings for pressure cooking and air frying at a lower price point. I gave the nod to the Pro Crisp because I prefer the pot, display, and redesigned pressure cooking lid of the Pro Crisp model. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you love lululemon's Wunder Train fabric but want more storage, we've also tested the Wunder Train High-Rise Tight with Pockets, which has many of the same features we love in the original. To find the best pairs lululemon has to offer, we tested over 20 pairs of leggings at home. (Plus, we have some tricks for navigating the lululemon "We Made Too Much" section.) lululemon leggings are also made with high-grade fabrics that retain their shape, elasticity, and color over time, making them great for exercise as well as lounging. The premium price tag on lululemon leggings comes with a commitment to quality, fit, and an unmatched customer experience. While lower-cost options are available, they often have a shorter lifespan and need to be replaced more frequently.

Product Details Description Simply Rodgers and Hart is a collection of the most famous songs by Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and Lorenz Hart (1895-1943). The son of German immigrants, lyricist Lorenz Hart began his theatrical career by translating German plays, while the New York-born Richard Rodgers studied composition at the Institute of Musical Art (now the Juilliard School), before their partnership began in 1919. Tonight we begin a two part exploration of the work of Richard Rodgers, beginning with his relationship with Lorenz Hart. He then went on to write with Oscar Hammerstein for another twenty years - a feat which no other composer has equalled. Richard Rodgers wrote with Larry Hart for twenty years in one of the most successful of songwriting partnerships. This week he celebrates a songwriting duo - Rodgers and Hart. ![]() Barry Manilow continues to look at the lives and works of his favourite composers, de-constructing their songs at his piano. ![]() ![]() ![]() Labels sort alphabetically by label name. The evangelist with 150,000 items claims he’d rather use the DT’s artificial intelligence to search than tag, so you should too. An application that helps you will add tags when you add an item to it, it will allow for predefined searching and combination of tags, it will make editing tags in one or multiple files easy. With tags that item can be referenced many ways based on the content needs at the time. For example: A simple text file recording daily activities can include notes on an art exhibit, a snip about the cute girl at the front desk, thoughts about the economics of the art market, the address of the exhibition catalogue publisher, and an idea for new shelves it the closet. I’ve never been exposed to a better system for dealing with multiply interrelated data sets than tagging. ![]() I’m not sure I agree, because at their best these apps enhance the operations of the file system, in other words they do things for you. I agree.īut the better question is what do these apps do for you that the file system doesn’t? If there is no work being done by the application then it is just an additional layer of code that will eventual corrupt or become obsolete (Anyone here ever use Ecco Pro back in the 90’s? I bet your data is lost too.) That was the point recently made by Alex Payne who said, dump the apps and just use OS X’s file structure. Steven Johnston, who wrote a ‘famous for the web’ article in the New York Times about how he used DT to write his books, called these applications groundbreaking in how they transform the creative process. Having access to a library is useful, but having your own library in a tool is totally cool, so you start to capture and produce more and more and more stuff. My sense is that once you begin using info manager tools, which is the loose category both these programs fall in, there is a linearity, perhaps an exponentially, to the data you collect. It was this Arian capacity for endurance that seduced me to DT. I’ve realized from the multiple windows that DT offers, each a bit more quirky than the last, that I will need that kind of power, because I can see for the first time just how much stuff I’ve accumulated. The program runs and runs even with huge data sets. ![]() You get the idea.īut I’ve got to say that DEVONThink can hold her beer. DT is rigid in its requirements and often sports a bad haircut. It is messy in the way it interacts with others and is more worried about the mad scientist, artificial intelligence core of the program than in adding any real value to how users create or manage data.Ī web buddy of mine, who also searched for another after her Journler romance failed, called DEVONThink “realy, um…. DEVONThink is an application best described as inattentive to its appearance. She’s not beautiful like you, kind of clumsy actually, but she is smart and will be here for the long haul…” Journler was the app I had been immersed in for the first year of my writing, my first crush, but the application’s solo developer had gone off, and it was clear, the bugs that existed would be problems forever.
